How to use Search in Garden Planner

To access the search feature choose Search Plants and Objects from the View menu or Click on the Search button on the toolbar.

This will show the search window.

In the box labeled search you can type in the plant or object that you wish to search for.

All matches will be shown to the left of the search window and you can then drag them onto the plan. Click close to close the search window.

You can also enter some descriptors within the search. So if you search for red outdoor chair, it will show all matching outdoor chairs and will set them to be red. Isn't that cool!

When you drag them onto the plan they will have their color set to red, which you can change if you wish. You can also use descriptors like small, short, tall, large etc.

The text that appears below the search box is a list of matching objects, it's part of the Beta version and will not be in the final release.

You can also search for plants, and you can use common names or botanical names. For example a search for monocots will give this result.

If you can't find a plant or tree that you want you can just describe it and the search feature will create it.

For example you could enter "small shrub with red cup flowers" and it will create four different versions of the shrub with the described flowers.

If you then look in the 3d view the shrub will be there and you can adjust the style of the leaves by clicking the Style button (as shown below)

For trees you can do the same thing. Eg: enter "Tree with large blue flowers" and it will create four options. If you like it drag it onto the plan, or try changing the search.

As with the plants and shrubs you further adjust the tree in the 3d view. You can change the Leaf style, like with shrubs. You can also set the colour of the trunk and the shape of the tree.

Terms you can use in search descriptions include: many or few or dense or short or small or tall or large.

eg: search for "a short shrub with many small white flowers".

Descripitve terms you can use for flowers include the following: stellate, star, cup, bowl, crateriform, asteroideae, composite, trumpet, campanulate, bell, coronate, crown, cross, cruciform,
radial, actinomorphic, bilateral, rosette and cichoireideae.

In the current version:

*** you can't search for styles used in the tools, unless they also appear as objects in the plant and object list.
